For the first part of the adventure, settle into our camp and take in the awesome surroundings. From your tent window, you can look out over the massive ice cliff and down to the immense ice waves on the horizon. It is simply stunning.
Then, each day, our field guides will suggest a number of excursions and activities for you to do. They can be easy and relaxing, or adrenalin charged... the choice is up to you. We insist on only a small number of clients at camp, so there are enough field guides to tailor each experience.
We go on gentle treks to the nearby oasis and explore ice caves and tunnels. Continuing further, you reach the massive ice disturbances on the coast and trekking across them is nothing less than surreal.
We also go on walks to see the little Adelie penguins that nest on an island near our camp. The penguins themselves walk nearly 90km to get there from the open water!
There are picnics on the edge of one of the many lakes near our camp and for the really brave, even the chance for an Antarctic swim! From enjoying a glass of GH Mumm Champagne on the crest of a mountain, to visiting one of the local science bases, your experience at Whichaway is both unique and genuine.
For those wanting more activity, our expert guides will teach you the skills of a polar explorer.
We do technical rock and ice climbing on the nearby Nunatak mountain, along with abseils into open crevasses. Our philosophy is that it’s about doing whatever it is you want to do.
In December 2007, one of our clients launched the first ever solo balloon flight in Antarctica. On another, one of our clients was an expert cold water swimmer and broke the World record for the most southerly swim.
We’re not expecting everyone to be so extreme, but with our guides at your side every step of the way (each of whom has skied thousands of kilometres across Antarctica and all have their own world records) we can push you as far as you want to go.
During your time at Whichaway Camp, we're there to help when needed or leave you in peace if you'd prefer. Our job is to ensure you are warm, safe and doing exactly what it is you want to do.
